This iPad app, now Version 2.4 and available in the App Store, was created by a cardiologist for patient education. Health care providers can use the images and animations to enhance explanations to patients. Patients (or any interested person) can use the app to learn and understand more about the heart and heart diseases.
Each “Chart” illustrates important points about heart structure, or function, or disease. The Charts are organized into Collections of related subjects: the Normal Collection (Four Chambers, Heart Valves, Great Vessels, Left Heart, Conduction System, and Coronary Arteries), Coronary Artery Disease Collection (Atherosclerosis, Cardiac Catheterization, Coronary Intervention, Myocardial Ischemia/Infarction), Valve Disease Collection (Aortic Stenosis, Aortic Regurgitation, and Mitral Regurgitation), Arrhythmias Collection (PVC’s, Atrial Fibrillation, and Pacemakers), and General Collection (Hypertension, Dilated Cardiomyopathy, and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy). Future updates will continue to add more Charts.
See iOS App Preview Video blog post for a video overview of how HeartCharts works.
